I've been to a forum where maximum avatar size is 29.8K.

And another where maximum avatar size is 80 by 80 pixels or 9.8 KB.

And one where there weren't any avatars at all.

I think we're fine with the current size. Just compress the image or convert it to a smaller file, like .png.
