On a side note, I never saw Moon Chao as a Jewel Chao but a "Texture" Chao. Maybe I'm wrong, though. I'm not 100% sure if Moon Chao are "seen" as Jewel Chao by the game.

So, the obvious solution is to ensure the Chao has the Flameball prior to it's final evolution and then using Chao Fruit to max out it's stats so you never have reason to give it animals or drives. Might be a good idea to put it in a garden separate from any Chao you want to give drives or animals ...
