I'm a big fan of Iron Gate on Hard Mode. Getting 10 chaos drives takes around 30 seconds, and getting 10 drives of a specific color generally only takes a minute or so. Excellent for rapid stat-boosting. Fun little related tidbit: Iron Gate's Hard Mode has waaay more enemies in the GameCube version ...

Re: i dont quite understand how to make
It's actually remarkably simple. Start with a newly-hatched baby chao. Pet/feed/etc the chao a lot with dark characters to shift it to the dark alignment. Give it 10 (or more) Flying (purple) drives and animals. Wait until it turns 1 year old, at which point it will evolve into a dark/fly chao. At a...

I remember reading about new features of the chao in Sonic Adventure 2 (we're talking Dreamcast here) while it was still in development. Previews and such. Sonic Team definitely made some statements about chao interacting with each other and being more "social". Those comments probably fueled a lot ...

Re: Sega Dreamcast -Anyway For Me To Get A Jewel Chao?
On the less-legit side of things, you can look into a program called Dream Explorer if your Dreamcast is able to play burned discs (most are). In addition to the decidedly non-legit Chao Editor 2 VMU game, you can find a few special chao tucked away in some of the save files included with the progra...

Re: whats wrong with my shadow chao?
You might be surprised by how easy it is to make a Shadow chao (or any other second evolution): Start with a newly-hatched chao who hasn't been given any drives or animals. Give it 10 green drives or animals. Wait for a chao year to pass, at which point it will evolve into a Run chao. Give it 20 gre...

Re: Shadow Chao help
You need to make the run stat not only very high, but much higher than the others. You need to give them run stats closer to when they are about to evolve. The first statement is incorrect here. The values of a chao's stats do not control evolution. Its run stat does not have to be higher than the ...

Re: i need to know how to make a twotone white
Call it what you like, but remember that it follows the exact same rules as any other two-tone chao. The problem with the "Blitz" nickname is that it suggests a special chao type with different characteristics (like how a Chaos Chao or the PSO Tails Chao have special properties). But a Blitz Chao is...

If you really want to go crazy, you could count every single second evolution slider variant separately. There are 41 different second evolution values for each slider: 20 values above 0, 20 values below 0, and 0 (the neutral position). This means there are 41x41=1681 different second evolution comb...

Mr. Fusion, how much does 1 pet from a character alter the alignment slider? Is it any less than the last bite of a hero/dark fruit, or is it equal? Already answered in this thread: The alignment value changes in steps of 0.05, unless you're using alignment fruit. This means it takes 20 steps to mo...

Re: Breeding.
The gene isn't so much diluted as much as less likely to have been maintained. Right. As I understand it, for each trait, every chao has their own expressed gene as well as an unexpressed, inherited gene. The value of that unexpressed gene is assigned in the same way as the expressed gene - that is...

One of these days, you're going to have to write up a post explaining all of the known "genes" in chao DNA. You keep surprising me with more.Fusion wrote:Additionally, this information does seem to be recorded in the chao's DNA, so it should be possible to pass it down through breeding.

Well, let's see.
Sonic Adventure 2 came out for the Dreamcast in 2001, and I got my copy almost immediately. I got my first Chaos Chao about a month ago. Sooo... 10 years?
EDIT: Oh, but the first Sonic Adventure came out in 1999! So more like 11 or 12 years.

The breeding method is more complicated than you say. When you breed two chao, the offspring inherit their stat grades from their parents (or sometimes earlier in the family tree). Following your method, if you took two new* chao who were both grade E in Swim and evolved them as swimming chao, they ...

Gotta love those "do some random things and waste a few hours and this will totally happen, for real you guys" recipes. There is only ONE rather unintuitive chao raising trick, and that's getting the Chaos Chao (2 reincarnations and at least one of each animal). That's it. Everything else is obtaine...

Re: [SA2B] Stat Grades and Inheritance
That's a good point. The extra set of grades may pick from the whole pool just like the chao's actual grades do. How confusing. So if you're unlucky enough, it would be possible for a chao's great-great-great-(etc)-grandparents to still contribute some E grades when breeding. Bleah. And yeah, the me...

I've heard (but not confirmed) that it takes 25 "steps" to move a chao's alignment from neutral to pure good or pure evil. I believe the actual number is either 20 and 25. In any case, a chao will move one step on the alignment slider each time the ball over its head changes into a heart. Petting a ...

The Chao transfer certainly is strange. Maybe it's a regional thing, or something to do with different versions/builds of the games. -shrug- I've never had the corruption issue with my setup, but even then it's still funky! I put an unhatched egg onto a VMU in SA and took it out in SA2, and the game...

This thread intended as a branch off of this thread so as not to hijack it completely. I recently got my own copy of SA2:B after playing the Dreamcase version for years. On a related note, can chao inherit stat grades from their grandparents too? I mated two chao with A's in Swimming, and their child wound up with an E.
