Re: Lets take over CI.
While I have no objections to serious restructuring of the forum(Even with it being our reason for being, do we really need 5 boards dedicated to Chao and 3 dedicated to non-Chao Sonic stuff?), I too would prefer that the old threads remain, even if just as a read-only archive.
Also, while I'm not particularly attached to my post count, I am kind of attached to the rank I've earned by successfully making that many posts without pissing off the staff enough to get the ban hammer. If you do decide to start the forums from scratch, I think it would be nice to have a special, admin-given rank set aside for those who were prominent members of the old forum(Given the existing ranking system, perhaps you could call us the Precursor Chao or the Ancient Chaos Chao).

Absolutely, I'm not looking for old members to be discarded and forced to be reborn with the forum - or at the very least some sort of rank/perk. As for the forum threads, a forum archive is very possible - in the past I have thought of purging old posts (more in general discussion and forum chat rather than other boards), but for now have kept all of the threads alive. However these methods will be looked into more in the future and I won't be discarding anything without notice first.Jeffery Mewtamer wrote:Also, while I'm not particularly attached to my post count, I am kind of attached to the rank I've earned by successfully making that many posts without pissing off the staff enough to get the ban hammer.
At the very least it will be a new forum upgrade, and at the very most a purge of old threads/posts with an archive.

It would suck if I lost all of my Sonic speculation threads or my quote topics. It took a long time to write that stuff.

I haven't been very active with posting lately, but I do still come one the site a few times a week. I agree with Mooncow that a "rebirth" could definitely help the forum bring in new people as well as possibly bring back some older members. I welcome any changes that could make this forum active again.

I peek in here every now and then, but I've always liked this site so seeing a rebirth or upgrade would be cool.

Since I am literally brand new here, my word likely won't get far, but I will give it a shot anyway.
Looking through the forums, I find it really hard to locate anything properly and I have no clue where I am going...
What I think personally would be best is an overhaul of the forum layout to be easier to navigate.

Re: Lets take over CI.
Im fairly nostalgic about the site, so if it has to be overhauled an archive of sorts would be a nice way to keep up with the past. If we can have something like that, or at least any means of keeping up with old topics and such, i'm fine with any restructuring.

I teared up man...Mooncow wrote:Hi everyone, I do share your concerns with the activity on the forum but I take a slightly different stance to the majority of you. Chao discussion has remained at a constant low for a while, and it seems the most noticeable issue is the drop in general discussion topics and chatbox activity. However a community generally grows and fades out together without something to attract people there in the first place - what was the initial attraction? Well Chao information of course (it definitely wasn't general discussion that people join for!) - the site was redesigned every few years with more information, updated forums, etc. Unfortunately this has not been the case as of late.
Crazo has taken an active interest in fully updating the Chao Island parts of the site, and I have been working on the updates he has shared with me. The forums however need an overhaul - every day i'm closer to doing a Moses and the great flood on the forums and washing it away and starting something new. It's a good time to do it as well with the low activity levels.
Most of you want to have a flourishing general forum and have no interest in the Chao parts of the site/forum - but this is our backbone. People that find the forum do it via searching for Chao information and discussion - not for off-topic chat (there are lots of other communities and forums that do this as their sole purpose, or even gaming sites about more recent franchises).
With the forum rebirth, there will be a new moderation team, and a specialised Chao research/information/help team (name undecided), since these are the two things i believe will hold Chao Island together. As mentioned in a previous post, with no new Chao games the emphasis is on community driven projects - a lot more work will be put into working with Chao game modifications (Fusions Chao Editor, Chao World Extended), Fan games (Sonic World Chao Garden, Unity 3d Chao Garden), research and tests, theories and mythbusting, artwork and stories, how-to guides, etc. This also coincides with twitch and steam streaming taking off really well and creating the ability to reach audiences not just with the game content but also with people, entertainment, and the community being able to share and watch things together - imagine something like a monthly Chao race with forums members' chao with prizes to encourage participation? Or cutest chao contests, scariest chao contests, etc. Just an idea but something along these lines isn't unthinkable.
I guess what I'm trying to say is - the forum is at an all time low, which also means the Chao community is at an all time low - but things are not out of our hands. People are still coming to Chao Island and joining the forums, which means the interest is there (however small), but there's a lot to be optimistic about. I've been away but not dead, and hopefully more people will join the refurbishment as it develops.
Honestly though, I'm perfectly fine with a complete purge. Its not the numbers, labels, or statistics that matter to me. To me all that matters is what company there is and what discussions are going on. That said, I'm not against preserving the past posts, labels and what have you either. That precursor or ancient chaos chao idea from somebody sounds really cool though.
I don't know if we need different staff though. Maybe more if the site grows exponentially, but for what it's worth, as far as I can tell the staff are doing their jobs, there's just not a lot going on to do anything about, as far as I can tell at least.
hey there! I don't have anything to put here for the moment, you can just move along now.
