How do you think it would've affected you?

For me, I wouldn't have met many of the wonderful people of this forum, and become friends with them. I definelty wouldn't have had a place to spend my time when I browse the internet, whether it be the Chatbox or the forums themselves. As for my own tastes and the way I act. I probably would've been a lot stupider in the way I act on the internet. CI was a good buffer to help me get out all my 12 year old antics, until I started to see my mistakes and change them around the time I was 15. Plus, having this as my first forum and to see it up and running is always great.

Certain opinions were shaped here and I've been able to see the other side of many things I never cared about researching on this site. I'd also say CI has always been a mellow place for me, and it's always nice to come back here and just unwind with the topics, having some fun. Without it, I probably wouldn't be able to have a place like this to just chill out in, and possibly be a slightly angrier person.

I get we've had this kind of thread before, but this is more or less just a "How different would you be without CI". It's about looking back and seeing what's CI did to change you, and thinking about how different you'd be without that change.

I probably wouldn't be engaged or in a relationship.

If I was in either, I probably wouldn't be as happy in one given how trashy most girls around me were

I would probably be a more hard-working and mature individual.

In other words, my life would suck.

Yeah I'd probably have zero friends. And I'd have no one to discuss important things with, I'd never get help, I'd listen to my parents instead, lots of bad stuff might have happened.

Now, though, since everything has passed, and I find myself regressing, maybe I'll end up the same way I was when I joined. That would be annoying.

My life would not be particularly effected at all.

CI was never that big a deal for me honestly.

I would have never met the people here. I wouldn't have had my first true relationship, I wouldn't have the friends I have currently that aren't IRL friends, and I wouldn't have learned about sites like Tumblr.

A lot of what happened in my life save a few instances happened outside of CI. At the most, i'd be a bit lonelier, or a bit less jovial with friends in real life.

I probably would not be at my current position as an artist. I didn't really do digital art prior to joining CI, I only really started doing it because I saw others doing it, and figured I'd give it a try. Course, I have always liked drawing traditionally, but had I not joined CI when I did, I more than likely would not have developed an interest in the digital medium. I also likely would not be at my current skill level had I not joined, because I wouldn't have anybody to share my art with, and receive feedback from (people in real life never really gave proper feedback).

I was also gonna say that I probably wouldn't have as many friends, but in all honesty, most of the friends I've made on CI (mostly people from '09-'10) have moved on, and I don't really talk to anybody else much. But then again, had I not joined CI, I never would've made friends with those people to begin with.

I probably wouldn't have started drawing, that's about the most drastic thing I can think of. Everything else I got from CI I can see myself having gotten from some other source

If I hadn't joined CI, I probably wouldn't even be on the internet that much aside from playing web games maybe. (That was all I ever did before joining the forum.)

Since CI was my first forum, it's actually meant a lot to me and I think I've grown a lot from being here. I met new people, learned that there was an entire world outside of what I see in my everyday life, and made new friends. I can safely say that my writing skills have greatly improved because of the time I spent role-playing here. I feel like the experiences I had here have shaped a lot of who I am today.

Most importantly though are the friends I've made. Ever since I first met them, we had always had this kind of connection. We blew up the role playing forums, did our own crazy little things, got into some trouble, but we always managed to work it out in the end. Now, because of them, I practically live on the Internet. We have our own chatzy, we've been using it since July of 2014, and we still use it to this day. We even got premium for it, so now I can go back and read all the crazy logs and be happy that the memories will always be there to remember.

Long story short

If I hadn't joined CI, I probably wouldn't be the perky person I am, because I wouldn't have met my best friends.

Who can say? I have no idea where I would be. I've thought about this before, but I know that negating my joining of CI would send the butterfly effect into bloody overdrive, because this site has shaped a huge portion of my life, directly and indirectly, for the past eight years. I met my longest girlfriend on this site. This site taught me about RPing and sent me looking for better RP sites, where I met more people, including some of the best friends I've ever met, as well as some of the saddest lessons I've ever had to learn. Without CI, I would be a totally different person, but I don't know whether I'd have given up on the Internet, or just joined another site.

It makes me wonder... if I hadn't joined CI, who would my best friends be then? Who would I know, while the people I know here would be around knowing other people instead of me? Makes me wonder whether I'd have met anyone from this site at all, or not. It's interesting but melancholy, in a sense.

...oh gosh...
To be perfectly honest, if I hadn't found CI, I may very well either be dead or in a mental hospital from multiple attempted suicides. :herocry:
When my cousin and I discovered Chao Island, I was in a very depressed rut. The friends I made here helped me feel better, and with therapy, I eventually got better. My depression is a chronic chemical-caused one, so it's not gone, but through therapy and stuff I learned how to handle it better. So I want to say Thank You to all my friends here, love you all <3!
I wasn't interested in the internet at all, not even youtube was something I knew about, and this was 2010! If it wasn't for my computer savvy cousin who helped me discover CI, I might have never even USED the internet beyond school reasons.
I had little to no friends in school, through out my school life. If I never found CI, and made the friends I have now, I think I may have stayed as a reclused shell..friendless and emotionally hollow.
I discovered DeviantArt through various CI members, such as Zipo, and learned how to do digital art.
Most of the websites I visit today I heard of through CI. So GPX+, Flight Rising, ect wouldn't even be on my internet history.
...Where I live, it's very looked down upon to be anything besides Straight, Christian, and staying as the Gender you were born as. I knew for a long time I was different...but I was too scared to bring it up- not even to my parents. If it wasn't for my closest friends here being willing to help me with stuff like that..I may have never known what I am.

So to sum that up..if I never found CI, I might have ended up as a: Reclused, emotional hollow shell with no internet savvy-ness, closeted, and struggling with art in a mental hospital...or dead..

so I kinda owe a lot to ci.. :sway:

If it weren't for Chao island I'd be spending most of my days probably just watching youtube. I doubt I would have gotten into competitive smash, gotten into several things like steven universe, or improved my own personal writing skills through rping.

All because I wouldn't have met my friends in the Rping section so early on. From those first few rp's we've all been there together and we pretty much all still talk to this day. Thanks to them I now spend my days in a chatroom (Not much better than youtube...) talking with them. They've become my closest friends and I'm not sure where i'd be without them. Thanks to them my interests spread, I started participating in competitive super smash bros., started watching more shows, and all around I feel like i'm a better person because of it all.

My life would probably still consist of the internet a lot, but meeting all of my best friends here has led it to consume my life. Even if none of them are on, I just want to check on them and see how everything's been and how everyone was doing. It's thanks to them that I've gotten to where I am today.

For that, I'm grateful

me as a person? probably nothing would change. there's only one guy i met here that means more to me than a lot of others so i would say i guess i'd never have that chance and that's like super sad and i also guess ci gave 19 year old me something positive to do.

Not sure. There was a time where CI was basically the only website I'd go to, so a lot of you guys I regarded as good friends. Had some great times.
Obviously, if I weren't here, I'd probably have just found some other website eventually, do a lot of the same things with other people, and you guys wouldn't matter to me.

Well, maybe not. Part of what shaped how I acted here was being one of the first ones here, in a not-so-established community. I'm too bashful to do so otherwise and this extends to real life.

If I didn't find some other site to go to, maybe I would've spent more time trying to socialize in real life.

You guys mostly shaped my internet life but I think my, uh, "meatspace" life would be pretty similar.

If I didn't join Chao Island, I wouldn't know as much as I do about chao. The information this site has feels like it keeps growing and growing.

I've never moderated a forum as long as I've had on Chao Island. I think I'm approaching my eighth year soon. Geez! That feels like such a long time. It's nice to know that I can be consistent for so long. It might be a good thing to put on my resume if I'm ever looking for a job that involves forum moderating... or chao raising.

I think without Chao Island, I wouldn't have as much confidence in myself. There's a lot of kind people here, and being able to participate in this community makes me a lot happier. I've had a lot of challenges throughout the years that make me prone to feeling sad, but this site often puts a smile on my face, whether I'm reading someone's story, looking at their drawings, chatting about video games, the world, or just about those adorable chao we can't help but love.

i feel mixed about this
parts of us still feel resentful of this site
but if it weren't for it, we probably wouldn't have met dray/wolf, who we consider a very dear friend
also roivas, we don't talk as much as we used to, but they're very nice

but i guess all of it is just a part of growing up
