Re: Cosmetic modification of consoles/controllers/etc.
Bumpan to post some new stuff!
in march i painted this NES zapper. this picture was before it was all re-assembled, so that's why there's no cable and the trigger is missing.
i'm pretty happy with it, but i haven't gotten to use it yet. ha.
shortly after that, i painted a whole NES and a controller to match.
this, too, is before re-assembly, and i'll post a picture of the whole thing pretty soon. it turned out super cool!
fun fact: i also painted my friend's tv purple to match this set.
and now, my favorite, my extreme green gameboy pocket + pink backlight. I wrecked more than four lcd screens in the process of backlighting this tiny devil. I literally finished this thing this morning<3

Boop. New DMG for y'all. I won this guy in a Goodwill auction & painted the inside. Better pictures of this coming soon.
The battery cover, since it was normal gray instead of clear, was painted a purple-to-sparklyblue gradient.
I'm for sure gonna backlight it. I haven't quite decided on a backlight color, but I know I'm not doing straight blue since it's hard to see. I also can't do purple. I'm thinking maybe an aqua or the same pink I used in my green gameboy pocket.

Cool~
The green and purple work together so well for some reason. I like the other ones too.
Have you ever modified a GBA?

Re: Cosmetic modification of consoles/controllers/etc.
Damn, now I'm starting to want to colour a controller or something Yellow... I might have to figure out how :)
Re: Cosmetic modification of consoles/controllers/etc.
Hey, thanks guys!
Maximilian: This stuff (for the most part) isn't as fragile as you might think! Controllers are super easy to take apart and mess with. If you really want to try it, take apart an NES controller and paint it. Actually, you could even do an LED mod behind the buttons, and it would look siiiiiick.
Ivo: I haven't tried a GBA! I could paint one fo sho, but the hitch with one of those is that it can't be backlit; only frontlit. (Same with the Gameboy Color.) That's difficult in a GBA because of the wider screen. The frontlight has to be either stripped from a DS or built oneself.
Crash: TOTALLY! Do it!! If you're nervous about there being lots of parts to keep track of and re-assemble, try an NES controller first. If you're feeling reckless right out of the box, go for a Gamecube controller! If you have any questions about the painting process, feel free to PM me!

Hey, I'm wondering, even though I doubt you do this much anymore, but if you have a Dreamcast, do you think you could modify it to be different colours, like you did with everything else in this thread?
I just saw a black and red one and it looked pretty cool.

Re: Cosmetic modification of consoles/controllers/etc.
^ wow how did i miss that? sorry it took forever to respond. i sure could! i don't have a dreamcast, but i could paint pretty much anything.
I made a new friend. green inside-out case paint, translucent purple buttons. gonna backlight it shortly. (purple backlight. possibly inverted, because i don't remember which inversions i got in my last purchase!)

Oh I forgot about my request.
Still, at least you answered.
Also after a quick google I found this.

The purple and green color scheme works better than I would think. Nice!

Re: Cosmetic modification of consoles/controllers/etc.
retro, that is a really rad dreamcast. people do all kinds of cool **** with their consoles!!
@crash: YES! please do post pix when you're finished!! i'd love to see.
Also, I finished another friend.
funny thing. i used the backlight that came in the bag with the inverted purple label on it, but i'm pretty sure it's actually normal inversion teal. still dig it, though.

Not sure if this counts as a mod, but I had a Sonic "magic" sticker for my DS. It mostly completely peeled off though. So much for "magic".

No. It doesn't count.
Re: Cosmetic modification of consoles/controllers/etc.
Wow,after looking at all these pics I was really impressed You've inspired me to learn how to modify controls and consoles because it looks really nice if you know what you're doing.
Finally . . .Remembered The E-Mail I used For This Account .-.
Re: Cosmetic modification of consoles/controllers/etc.
^thanks, that's always nice to hear! you should definitely try it out. most of the time, it looks a lot harder than it actually is. feel free to PM me with any questions if you do decide to give it a try!
i had a day off today, so here's another new friend.
CottonCandyBoy:
aaaand a close up shot of the screen in action:
the blue paint looks much brighter in person. my phone camera apparently has a hard time with accuracy when it comes to this color.

All of these look awesome, great job! Really loving the red one with gold buttons.
It's inspired me to maybe do some of my own work... Maybe with an psone
Also if/when you do a DS/DS lite take EXTRA care when you take it apart, carefully note where things go, I don't remember allot, but I know it was really hard to put back together... I've never taken apart a phat, i'd imagine it'd be easier though... because... well big things normally are...

Re: Cosmetic modification of consoles/controllers/etc.
Quick question: is there a certain type of paint you use so the controller/device doesn't feel like crap when you hold it?
