What do you think a Health Potion tastes like?

I've always though it was sort of like a Diluted drink, sort of like Diluted Juice, or milk, so that it is pretty plain, but there is a taste in there somewhere, but it is so insignificance, it isn't really noticeable.

What about you, what do you think a Health Potion tastes like?

i always imagined it was like vaguely alcoholic ever since i saw use of alcohol on the back of kingdom hearts ii esrb rating.
and they've sold energy drink and juice cocktails named after various health potions, so i'm assuming something like a cocktail.

I noticed that in Ocarina of Time, Link can time travel with a bottle of Lon Lon Milk and still be able to drink it without consequence, even though it should have curdled over the amount of time he's traveled.

I imagined it had a bubblegummy flavor, and is really syruppy. But goes down really easily. Perhaps it has alcohol or something mixed in to take the edge off the pain.

Realistically, any kind of potion would be made from various herbs. It would taste extremely bitter and earthy.

As for mana potions, I think they would be more medicine tasting.
Like a watered down cough syrup with a hint of mint or blueberry.

Realistically, any kind of potion would be made from various herbs. It would taste extremely bitter and earthy.

Pretty much this, however the red coloration leads me to believe that they put some sort of red sweetener, probably some sort of fruit juice, so it would be bitter and earthy with a slight taste of fruit.

^They could have used actual red wine. This was common with a lot of old medicines. Some of the first known medicine was just wine.

Realistically, the taste would vary greatly depending on the level of technology and magic the person who made the potion had access too and whether the preparer decided to leave it unflavored or added flavoring.

That said, considering that most games that use drinkable potions for health recovery tend to have a very low level of technology and magic that leans towards the earthly or morbid for ingredients, I would imagine that most health potions would have a very bitter taste akin to old-fashioned herbal medicine unless some sort of flavoring was added to make it more palpable. I would imagine fruit puree would propably be the most common flavoring in such settings. Settings that lean towards a more modern level of technology, yet still have potions for health recovery would likely taste closer to most modern liquid medicines.

As for Energy/Mana potions, I imagine most of them having a sweeter taste due to a high sugar concentration, perhaps with a bitter aftertaste due to herbs that help the body utilize the energy from the sugar.

And of course, potions that restore both health and energy would taste like a mixture of the health and energy potions from the same vendor.
