I'd see something from Xenoblade or Bayonetta over Chrom, since I don't think they have ANY representation.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS [there are no veterans]
So, apparently Xenoblade developers have been retweeting Sakurai's news or something? It was all over Smashboards' Ridley thread.
In light of that, expecting Shulk.
I think that there could be way better FE reps than another swordsman, but then again I didn't play Awakening. I like... Anna, I think it was? The one with red hair. She seems awesome.

I think it might actually be real. Mewtwo's gotten a lot of hype lately with its two mega forms and a new movie. But I'm not gonna say it is real until it's officially revealed. Still hoping for a Mother character.

That screen is fake. The color behind the characters is yellow, not multicolor. Plus, Yoshi's picture is different from the Smash Bros site's picture.
Not to mention that Lucario, Diddy Kong, Sheik, ZSS, Charizard, Ike, Little Mac, Greninja, the Mii Fighter, Paletuna, and Pac-Man aren't there.
Plus, Yoshi was revealed along with Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, Charizard, and Greninja, yet they're not there. This is obviously fake.
You can see the menu screen here.

Well technically Greninja was in there before he was released in X/Y you know.
So it's entirely possible they had Mewtwo's forms made and stuff before it came out.
Needless to say though, I'm certain this is just a convincing fake.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS [there are no veterans]
Implying the idea that Mewtwo could return is out of this world. I'd understand if you were talking about someone like Snake, but realistically, with the amount of relevance Mewtwo has had recently and Mewtwo's popularity, it's entirely possible. Of course, probably not possible in your mind if you're one of the people believing the original fighters have 100% chance to appear in every Smash Bros. game, in which case you'll believe more in Jigglypuff.EvilPinkamina wrote:If you actually believe mewtwo is coming back then I am laughing at you.
The idea that Mewtwo can't be in because of the roster being planned early isn't the best argument, either. As Fox pointed out, Greninja exists. I'd imagine they mapped out Mega Forms earlier rather than later in development, likely just after they decided the new Pokémon to be included in X and Y, which would have been quite early on.
Also, need I mention Charizard's Final Smash, which is his Mega Form?
---
That aside... apparently, Xenoblade developers retweeted the April Direct, as well. Still heavily expecting Shulk, but praying Sakurai kicks Gematsu into the curb. Still, ignore my previous post. Looks like this really could be anybody on Monday.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS [there are no veterans]
My argument for Mewtwo not being in isn't that the roster was planned pre XY, that was my argument against his recent hype. Mewtwo couldn't be in because Lucario replaced him in brawl as the humanlike pokemon, and Pokemon already has a stupid amount of representatives in Smash 4 (Pikachu, Charzard, Greninja, and Lucario), while some IPs don't have any yet (Bayonetta and Xenoblade).

^But that's boooooring. Let's talk until Monday. Who do you think's coming?
If that's your argument, I've gotta solidly concur. Adding in Mewtwo, however, would probably be a wise move by the developers. A lot of people want to see that one, and it could bring in a lot of sales. If Mewtwo doesn't make it in, I can easily see Mewtwo making DLC, provided they do decide to make any.
Aaaaanyway...
So, them villains. Did they go on holiday or something? No-one invited Bowser.
Pokémon does have a ridiculous amount of reps, that's for sure. And that's without even looking at the fact that it's the one Smash series that essentially has its own Assist Trophy segment. I'm doubtful of Bayonetta, but I wouldn't be opposed to a Bayonetta rep, either.EvilPinkamina wrote:My argument for Mewtwo not being in isn't that the roster was planned pre XY, that was my argument against his recent hype. Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS [there are no veterans]
I think Mewtwo or Sceptile will occupy a 6th spot for the Pokemon series. Brawl had 6, I don't see why they'd cut down for the next game. I don't exactly see Jigglypuff being cut from the roster either. And obviously because six is a full team of Pokemon.
You could argue that it isn't fair for a series to gain multiple newcomers, but Pokemon did that in Brawl, even if you decide not to count Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard as different characters. But also, Sceptile would make the starter type trio complete. As for Mewtwo, he's not a newcomer, so if they decided to limit it to one newcomer per a franchise this time around, he could slip right on in.

^Why not Sceptile if they want to add a Grass representative?
Also, how is less than 1% of a franchise's cast a ridiculous number of representatives? Some of the franchises with only one playable character actually have a higher percentage of their cast represented.
Regardless of what the final roster ends up being, I suspect roughly 100% of the people who play the game will have at least one character they wish had made it in or one character they wish hadn't made it in.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS [there are no veterans]
4 out of 800+ may seem small, but 4 out of 33 is much larger when you count the fact that Smash 4 was confirmed to have less characters than brawl (for a max of 38 characters) and we already have 33 confirmed. We can assume that at least two of those slots will be Captain Falcon and [Mother Rep], because they are lacking, and a possible Xenoblade rep for the same reason.

I suppose to add up to the fire-water-grass pattern, that isn't stuffed into one trainer this time, Sceptile is a candidate.Jeffery Mewtamer wrote:^Why not Sceptile if they want to add a Grass representative?

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS [there are no veterans]
It has a ridiculous number of representatives for Smash, not for Pokémon. Four confirmed characters, and you know that there's going to be at LEAST one unlockable. My bets on said unlockable are either Jigglypuff or Mewtwo. Maybe even both. And that's before you get into the series' own Assist-Trophy-esque items.Jeffery Mewtamer wrote:Also, how is less than 1% of a franchise's cast a ridiculous number of representatives? Just a quick google search and...
[quote=http://wiiudaily.com/2012/07/super-smas ... haracters/]According Nintendo game designer Masahiro Sakurai, creator of the series, Super Smash Bros Wii U probably won’t be featuring more playable characters than previous games in the series. He says that having a lot of playable characters means a lot of balancing has to be done and that fine tuning the gameplay and characters becomes difficult. [/quote]

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS [there are no veterans]
I was probably googling the wrong terms or something. I couldn't find any article like that when I tried, but that one works perfectly. Thank you!
Anyway...
Personally, I think there's no way we're not getting as many characters as in Brawl.
We have 33 characters. Sakurai is cutting as little as possible...
We have 24 veterans and 9 newcomers.
Let's say we're definitely getting CF, Ness, Meta Knight, Mr. G&W, Ice Climbers, Falco, Ganondorf, and Wario, all of which are VERY LIKELY to return. Hell, some of these can be considered all but confirmed, like Mr. G&W.
That already brings it to 41 characters, over Brawl, and that's before we go over the newcomer tomorrow and the other unlockable newcomers that are undoubtedly going to exist.
Of course, I understand the idea that there may be less characters than Brawl. I just don't think it's likely. I think the final roster is going to be around 50 characters, to be brutally honest.

Meta Knight and Falco aren't even close to guaranteed. With the adjustable movesets, Falco can be as good as out because he was practically a Fox clone with different stats. I don't know why you think Meta Knight though.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS [there are no veterans]
I think Falco is very likely because although Wolf was much more different to Fox, Falco is a fan favourite in the competitive community and Nintendo has been paying much more attention to the competitive community recently. He's also been in two Smash Bros. games as opposed to Wolf's one. Falco may not be as likely as, say, CF, but I think he's a lot better off than you make him out to be.
As for Meta Knight... him being cut? No, I don't see a single reason why he would be cut. He's a popular character, he's from a series created by Sakurai himself, and his moveset is completely unique, if in need of some desperate tuning. If this character is cut, I'll eat my hat.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS [there are no veterans]
Personally, it would be quite disappointing if Smash 4 ends up having a smaller roster than Brawl, and who's to say Sakurai and the rest of the team haven't change their mind since making that statement? Even 50 would feel a little small.
Also, considering the sheer number of characters to draw from, I see nothing wrong with Pokemon taking up a sizeable fraction of the roster as long as no really noteworthy franchises get excluded.
Also, if anything aren't Assist Trophies pokeball-esque considering the Pokeball has been around since the original Smash?

I can't get it here, but today's Pic of the Day shows a Rayman trophy. I think this just might be the clue we were waiting for. I will admit, I'll be kinda disappointed of Rayman joins. But oh well. 1 hour and 28 mins left!

At this point, I'm convinced it's Shulk, Rayman or not.
If Sakurai proves us all wrong, I will be elated no matter who it is. Not because I hate Shulk, but because I want to prove the Shulk/Chrom/Chorus Kids leak wrong.
EDIT: ODBGHFSDHJFJKSD YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAH I'VE NEVER PLAYED AWAKENING BUT HELL YEAH ROBIN AND LUCINA TWO NEWCOMERS AT ONCE AND CAPTAIN FALCON RETURNS
I'M SO DAMN HAPPY, IT LOOKS LIKE CHROM IS PART OF A FINAL SMASH OR SOMETHING, I DIDN'T SEE IT CLEARLY
