Gimmie some 3D platformers.

Post by chaoadventures »

I'm looking for some 3D platformers, because I can't keep playing Super Mario Sunshine and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle forever. (Actually, I probably can.)

The closer the games you guys give me are to Super Mario Sunshine (Basic 3D platformer with a well executed gimmick) the better.
That's what made Mario 64 feel kinda plain to me, but feel free to recommend them anyways.
Also, please don't give me games like Mario 3D World and Land because they feel like some kinda weird pesudo-3D.

Games I've played (That I can think of):
Spoiler:
-Sonic Adventure DX

-Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

-Sonic Heroes (Ugh.)

-Sonic '06 (...)

-Super Mario 64

-Super Mario Sunshine

-Super Mario Galaxy (Eh.)

-Super Mario Galaxy 2 (...)

-Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg

-Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly

-Jak and Daxter
Give it your best shot.

There, that should keep you occupied a while. I personally strongly recommend Worms Reloaded, best 3D platformer of the year hands down.

^By 3D, I didn't mean games with 3D Graphics (those Kirby and Donkey Kong games). And Luigi's Mansion is a platformer?
That aside, these all seem interesting.

3d platformer is a really broad term, if it's 3d and there's any platforming at all--jumping, collecting, traversing, avoiding obstacles, using items, devices, or weapons to accomplish any of that--and these days action-adventure gets lumped into it (i.e zelda, god of war, 3d castlevania)--it's probably labeled one. edit: that includes 2.5 being seen as 3d. added because i guess some people don't grasp context clues

tried my best meeting what you're looking for, yeah i'm old

ratchet and clank is the superior series, play with my furry husband this instant

legend of kay, sly cooper 1-4, croc, the last tinker, bomberman hero, jersey devil, jumping flash, any pacman world or ghostly adventures, any ape escape, oddworld strangers wrath, banjo kazooie/tooie, dk64 if you like mediocre games a lot, ruff trigger, ty the tasmanian tiger series, MediEvil, portal runner, maximo: ghosts to glory but it's pretty ridiculous, mark of kri, the blinx games, chameleon twist, kya dark lineage, the tak series, earthworm jim 3d, rocket: robot on wheels

if you don't mind traversal platformers, infamous 1-2

ok

The games he's referring to (the recent DK games and Kirby 64) are both 2.5D platformers in the sense that they're 2D platformers reminiscent of the 2D era of video games, they just have proper 3D graphics.

Don't ever give up Mario Sunshine. It's the best Mario game ever. But if you want a 3D platformer as good as that, I recommend the original Spyro trilogy. Preferably the third one, as it was the best.

+1 to Banjo-Kazooie and the original Spyro the Dragon.

If you have a PSP, I'd recommend Daxter. Levels are far more linear than Jak and Daxter, but it feels closer to the original than what I've played of Jak 2 and 3.

It's more of an Action RPG than a true platformer, but Ys: Oath in Felghana does have quite a bit of running and jumping and is worth playing just for the soundtrack.

Conkers Bad Fur Day

If someone suggests Bubsy, you're getting crucified

On the subject of 2.5D VS 3D, I think the choice of words is as followed.

A 3D Platformer is always 3D
A 2.5D Platformer is either 2d in a 3d environment or 3d in a 2d plane, thus never truly 3d
