If left blank (or just scribbled over like in the second picture) no one has any idea what's going on. Paint bucket and artifacts apparently up the funny factor, too. If it was a one-time joke, that might be fine for FG&C, but if you're going to go a ways with this, you might want to take some things into consideration. Frames like the one above usually take me around anywhere from 15 - 45 minutes of screwing around in Photoshop (or Paint.NET since the font tool isn't being cooperative right now), animated ones taking a little longer. Effort is key.
Or you could keep it as is, there's nothing wrong with developing and using your own style.
