Re: Pokken Tournament
I could seriously see this game being placed in ancient kalos, during the war times. Like, I actually HOPE that's what it is, because the game would be exponentially better that way.

Re: Pokken Tournament
I doubt it, as if you watch the background in the trailer, you can see blimps and modern windmills.
That would have been cool, though.

Re: Pokken Tournament
We don't know **** about Kalos during the war periods. Remember, this is a world where you can transfer creatures literally the size of buildings with insurmountable power in a small, lightweight ball that can be put in a computer. Maybe they had windmills in the days of old Kalos history. And blimps are seriously 1870 :P

Re: Pokken Tournament
I doubt that is the case, but on that topic, I seriously wish they had more games relating to backstories, specifically with Kalos and Unova, as both had very exciting, people involved, semi-ambiguous back stories. Unova would be specifically amazing, due to multiple events, such as Pokemon and People fighting (as implied by the Deer swordsmen) and the thing with brother dragon.EvilPinkamina wrote:I could seriously see this game being placed in ancient kalos, during the war times. With this game, I would say the character roster is either going to be dis-proportionally fighting type, if it maintains traditional fighting game structure, or very weird if it expands to many diverse types.

With 700+ Mons to work with, I'll be majorly disappointed if the roster isn't in the triple digits.

Re: Pokken Tournament
I wouldn't get too excited for right now unless you like Tekken and arcades.
This doesn't mean the casual-focused fighter won't eventually be ported to consoles, but I don't count on much depth outside move-sets, , because it sounds like it's a more traditional fighting game.IGN wrote:The Pokemon Company has just revealed Pokken Tournament, a new fighting game starring its infamous 'mon and being developed by Bandai Namco's Tekken team. The lead producers of Tekken and SoulCalibur, Katsuhiro Harada and Masaaki Hoshino respectively are both working on the project.
At the moment, there's no news of a Western release or even if the brawler is set to arrive on consoles in Japan. It's currently planned for arcade machines, with the initial information being pretty sparse.

Finally played this game yesterday.
I was wondering if I should have made a topic but I found out we already had this one.
How about everyone else?

Re: Pokken Tournament
Personally, I really like this game. I'm maining Braixen. (I was told I would be shooting people with fire. I was not lied to or disappointed.)
It's really unfortunate the mechanics, specifically Field Mode, force it to be an overly extreme pain to play locally.
If you didn't know, if you try to play locally 2 problems arise:
Honestly, I would have just settled for DBZ: Burst Limit levels of 3D, where you could run around (And/or sidestep) your opponent in a circle, and nothing more.
(As far I know, just running in circles is actually useless in Burst Limit.)
Dual Mode is an example of what could have been the whole game. And it would have been just as good, if not better.
Otherwise, I'm enjoying this game a ton. That and Magikarp Festival.
The combo training mode is really nice too. Too bad it's asking for Support Pokemon I haven't unlocked yet.
And Chandelure has a laser. What did I tell you guys about HD Hyper beam?
I'm wondering if anyone knows what exactly causes a Critical Hit yet.
Since training mode has its own setting for making random Critical Hits, it couldn't be random like the main games. I'm asking because there's a combo that asks specifically for a Critical Hit Counter Attack.
(There's an alternative, but you have to charge it.)

I really didn't expect magikarp festival to be as great as it was

Re: Pokken Tournament
It's an interesting game, that's for sure.
Gardevoir has been my main so far. I don't enjoy field mode, so I abuse her neutral pokemon move to force others into a duel.
Not that it really matters, but so far I've been able to maintain a 100% win rate with 50+ matches during the league. Haven't had a chance to see how online worked.

Re: Pokken Tournament
^100% win rate with 115 or so matches in League. Either the COM is bad, or my tactics are too good for them. The only loss I've had is the first Shadow Mewtwo fight, which didn't get added to my total.
I did have some matches with low HP (Like 20), but that was really late, as in, halfway through the Chroma League and very rarely before that.
To be honest, I haven't spent very much time in Field Mode since I just spam Braixen's Ranged Attack to get to Dual, so I'm not actually sure what happens in there. At all.
I just run and shoot (and sometimes block, counter, and/or throw. Just situational stuff. I know pressing Homing Attack is a horrible idea though.
It's so slow, I don't think there's any good reason to use it, other maybe moving in a straight line for a little bit and then R-Canceling it. Even attacking with it at close range is a really, really bad idea.
You can also see it coming, it's and really blatant. It's like... A homing shot. (Jokes about that will be made for generations.) (Pun unintended.)
And I found out a Critical Hit is what happens when you actually counter something in the Attack Triangle with a Counter Attack (Or some other Attack Triangle victory).
Great job explaining that, Tutorial. Unless I missed that somehow. Yeah...
At this point, I'm just fighting the COM on Hard and seeing what they do with every character, before I try to play online.

Now onto the elephant in the room
Two Mewtwo's is somewhat acceptable, palette swaps don't take up any time at all really.
BUT TWO PIKACHUS??? WITH ONE OF THEM USING THE LUCHADOR GIMMICK THAT HAWLUCHA SHOULD HAVE BEEN USING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Pokken Tournament
"Yeah, because everyone likes Pikachu more than the others like Charizard." "Everyone." Said a marketing executive. 'You gotta take out that Wrestling Bird, and add another Pikachu!"
That said, I don't really care that much since I got everything I wanted character-wise. Well mostly. Victini's not playable and potentially taking the place of Braixen.
(WHY MUST YOU BE A SUPPORT, VICTINI? WHYYYYYYYYYYY???) I also wanted Breloom, to an extent.
Also the absence of Hitmonchan, or just the Hitmons in general (I could settle for Hitmontop, personally.) as playable characters and Goodra (Pokedex says it punches as strong as a pro boxer) does bother me.

Only Hitmontop could have been the safe choice here really. It using capoeira would have been a fantastic addition.
I'm really hoping that the dlc includes more fighters than anything else, but I'm afraid Hawlucha is dead. On another note, is anyone starting to feel that the metagame revolves a lot more around beam spamming than the actual fighting?

Isn't that what everyone said about Smash 4 before release? (Except me)
I wouldn't doubt if this game saw a few dlc items come its way. Literally every game has some sort of dlc shoved in nowadays because... greed?

Well I mean, the difference is they had one DLC fighter planned that they couldn't squeeze into release for sm4sh. This they have no plans. Doubt they'll not relase any DLC tho.

Re: Pokken Tournament
Part of me says it wouldn't feel like a proper Pokemon game without DLC, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of it is Disc-locked. Afterall, Pokemon has had disc-locked DLC since Red and Green hit shelves in Japan, and it wouldn't be the first time a spin-off got in on it.
