Walking briskly, Zack and the others were out of the garden in quick time.

Were-Adrian took the blow; it would've been a mighty hit to a smaller creature, but the uppercut was not highly damaging to it. The beast's head sprang up from the force, and it lifted its arms high, counterattacking, quickly crashing them down in front of him.

Dash could feel his heart thudding away in his chest; he ignored the occasional slap of tree branch or leaf as he rocketted his way toward the garden. He banked around a sharp turn in the path, seeing the group of chao too late to dig his feet in. He slammed into the two-tone blue chao leading the pack, sending both of them rolling into the rest of the group not unlike a bowling ball through bowling pins. knocking every one of them over. "What the..." he rubbed his head before shaking it quickly and standing back up, not wasting any time. "Sorry, you guys!" he shouted back over his shoulder as he resumed toward the Neutral Garden.

--

Kinto Q brought his forearms up in an X over his head to take the force of the downward strike and avert a critical hit to the top of his head. The impact left a crater under his non-existent feet. He took hold of one of the hairy arms and swiveled in place, using all his might to pull the creature off-balance and thrust its face into the ground.

--

"Made it..." huffed Rascal as the three of them crested the ridge that looked downward into the lagoon. Sand and rocks surrounded the small body of inland water, palm trees and ferns poking through in places. He aimed a flipper at one of the rock formations; years of water eating at the rock's surface had created a small cove.

"What the hell was that about..?" Zack grumbled as he stood back up and watched the red chao run off. A more cautious lime green chao soon followed, as well. Were he not feeling very much like he wanted to wash his hands of the whole situation, Zack might have engaged them, but under the circumstances, escorting the new chao slaves was his top priority.
"Come along, then." He said, ushering them to continue forward.

--

Were-Adrian's body lurched forward unwillingly as Kinto Q grappled him, but stopped halfway and tugged back. The beast freed its arm from the swim chao's grasp and formed a fist, which it promptly returned towards Kinto Q.

--

"Wow." Chasm said, eyes wide. "It's beautiful. I wish we were here under better circumstances, but..." She walked towards the cove, not able to suppress a small smile.
"Yes, lovely." Peaches bit her lip, not continuing to move forward. Chasm and Rascal were safe now, wasn't that what Dash wanted? Sitting back like this was agonizing to her. She wished to help, not be a liability. Of course, she didn't dare say that to the two of them. Regardless, she sighed and looked back the way they had come. From here, the smoke could barely be seen.

"Not many chao actually know about this spot," Rascal said to Chasm, offering his hand out to her so she could follow him down a particularly steep spot ahead of them down to the cove. "If they did, it would probably become a tourist attraction and then it wouldn't be so special anymore." He paused, looking at Peaches. "Hey Peaches, are you coming?"

--

Kinto Q dodged this time, his arms still smarting from the last attack he'd blocked. One thing was not in question: the beast was powerful. Kinto Q didn't know if this was the creature's only form-- surely he would have heard something about it in chao folklore if so. Had it ever once been chao or had it been born this hideous amalgamation. He had to know. But how would he learn this? All of this was went through his head as he sidestepped the creature's attacks; he was quicker on his feet and could narrowly stay ahead.

--

Dash made it to the garden. The sight that met his eyes would've drawn his breath away, if he'd had any to be taken. Huffing and ducking back into the cover of foliage, he stared at the battle taking place before him. Kinto Q. This had to be him alright. Or well... it had to be one of them. Dash wasn't rightly sure which of the two combatants was the evil-doer the newspaper had reported on. There hadn't been any picture, nor a description of the chao in question. The larger one looked scarier at first glance, but there was something menacing about the smaller green chao that wasn't just the dark cape he wore. Could they be accomplices? No, if they were, why would they be fighting each other? Dash bit his lower lip uncertainly.

Chasm peeled her gaze away from Rascal to look to Peaches.
"Umm," Peaches turned to face the two chao. She couldn't help noticing how connected Rascal and Chasm seemed, like if she really wanted to she could scamper off and they might not notice for a time.

Which is exactly what Peaches wanted to do. Taking a breath and ushering in as much confidence as she could, she spoke somewhat tremblingly, "Look, you two are safe. That's what Dash wanted. I can't stand sitting around here like this. I'm going after them."
"What?! Come on, Peaches, I don't think Dash would want any of us to be alone." The black chao protested loudly. The serene silence of the lagoon seemed broken somehow. "Tell her, Rascal!" She pleaded with the quiet chao.
Peaches merely looked annoyed.

--

Were-Adrian threw punch after punch, but to no avail. Kinto Q was evasive and clever. It grew angrier yet, but showed no signs of slowing down. The night was young, and so the beast's strength remained in full force.

--

Spike retraced Dash's steps exactly. He strongly considered stopping to ask the leaving group of chao what was going on, especially given the odd appearance of their apparent leader, but after his red friend had run into them full force he thought it best not to disturb the likely nervous chao any further. He jumped into the bushes about half a minute after the run chao and huddled close to him.
"What d'you think is going on?"

"Uh-uhmm..." was Rascal's initial statement, a little pulled off balance the way Chasm was clinging to his left flipper. Confrontations were not his thing. "T-technically Dash did say all th-three of us were supposed to go somewhere safe. I-if... if there is any real danger, y-you should stay." He put his other hand over Chasm's, "What if w-whatever it is came after us next a-and you weren't here to protect us?" He squeezed his eyes shut then, hoping Peaches wouldn't be angry at him for what he'd just said.

--

"I have no idea..." Dash admitted. Then he heard something that hadn't initially caught his attention. Muffled pleas for help coming from the crab pool. "Do you see that?!" Dash exclaimed, pointing at the skeletal being.

Rascal's stuttering only fueled Peach's impatience. "You two will be fine. We'll still meet at that clearing." And with that, she turned away and ran off.
"But -- !" Chasm held out her other hand as if reaching for her orange girl friend, who had never let her down before now. She dropped it, and, embarrassedly realizing she was still clinging to Rascal with her other hand, released him.
"Ohh..." She moaned, "She's so hard-headed sometimes!"
Chasm suppressed a sniffle, looking to the ground. "She'll be alright, though."

--

"That thing looks about as trustworthy as those two who are fighting." Spike said, grimacing. "We need to hurry!" He whispered harshly, and, hoping that Dash would understand what he was up to, the lime green chao began to circle as widely as possible around the bushes and along the rock face get behind the skeleton.

"It's us I'm w-worried about," Rascal admitted. He cleared his throat. "I guess we oughta lay low for now until they get back..." he settled. The light blue chao hopped into the waist-deep water of the lagoon and rolled onto his back, buoying not unlike an otter. He sighed, staring up at the sky above them, just hoping everything was alright.

--

"Spike!" Dash whisper-yelled. "Snickerdoodles!" he cursed silently, smacking his palm with a fist. He had no idea what the lime runchao was planning to do. Thinking quickly and coming up with no better alternative, he jumped out of cover a few feet away from the undead creature. "Hey buttface!" he waved his arms to get its attention. It turned its head, the black sockets in its skull that seemed devoid of life staring right at him. Dash turned his rear end toward it and shook it, "Looks like you missed me; come grab me and put me in that pool of yours!"

Chasm decided to join him. Whatever was going to happen, would happen, and no amount of moping would make things any better. She too slipped into the water and rolled onto her back the same as Rascal, although not with the same grace as him.
Rascal. She looked over to him. He seemed already decently at ease under the circumstances. She understood; to her, the only thing that could beat the rejuvenating feeling of cool water was the unlimited freedom to be found in flying.
Chasm's thoughts went back to the light blue chao once more. She had always been acquainted with him, but overlooked him because of his quiet nature. Today's events had proven to grow them closer, maybe. Certainly, she felt that way at least. She could think of no other chao she would feel more at ease alone and in hiding with. Maybe Dash. The fly chao almost chuckled aloud; every female hero chao fancied Dash, because he was brave and heroic like the male hero chao, but more quirky and interesting. Yes, the red chao was brave and admirable; and yet, something about Rascal was so much more comforting to Chasm. He wasn't nearly as confident, but more wise and relaxed.
Suddenly, the black chao became worried. What did Rascal think of her? He was so soft-spoken that it was impossible to tell. She had heard of chao communicating subtly through body language and the like, but that seemed impossible to her. Chasm had always been very vocal.

--

The skeletal chao's dark sockets suddenly glowed red. Brandishing its dagger, it began to approach Dash. While undoubtedly magically enchanted to be strong, as a guard, it was anything but fast. Spike grinned mischievously as he looped around, glad that the red chao had improvised. Jumping out from behind, he launched himself into a side thrust kick which connected with the skeleton's skull. A loud cracking sound was followed by the figure falling very suddenly to pieces, its sustaining magic leaving it. Spike landed clumsily upon the flat rocks before regaining himself. He stood up, grinning triumphantly.

Rascal was, in fact this instant, being very quiet. He allowed his body to float along with the small amount of current in the lagoon, almost forgetting he wasn't alone. He watched the sparse clouds that were still adrift in the sky, blocking out the view of the stars as they blew by. "The sky is a lot like the ocean, isn't it?" he said to Chasm. "Big. Blue. Empty." Upon speaking to the girl chao, he flipped over to his front to look at her.

--

"Nice one, Spike!" Dash fist-bumped the other chao in hasty celebration. He was quick to frown however when he noticed that destroying the skeletal abomination had not doused the flames surrounding the pool. Small bubbles were beginning to form on the pool's bottom, the heat of the water rapidly approaching boiling, the chao within it crying out in pain. "Don't worry, guys, we'll get you out!" Dash assured them before turning back to the hero runchao. "Spike, we've gotta figure a way out fast!"

He sure is obsessed with the ocean. She smiled at the thought.
"Yeah." Chasm said finally. "I like them both."
She sighed, swaying slightly in the water. "Rascal, I don't know if chao were meant to be like this. I know you haven't heard all of it, but these attacks in the city and such... I think we were meant to stay close to nature." She shook her head and then looked to him. "What do you think?"
But the black chao thought she already knew what his answer might be.

--

Spike's eyes widened at the sight of the suffering chao and cursed under his breath. "Who would do something like that?" He began looking about frantically for some weak point in the flames. Seeing no such thing, he began to pace in his frustration.
"I can't think of anything!" He cried out. Looking down at the skeleton, he kicked its jumbled bones.
"I thought maybe if we took him out, they would die down, but..."
He bent over and picked up its fractured skull. He tossed it to a nearby rock in his anger. It shattered further.
"Still nothing!"
The lime green chao continued doing this with other bones until he noticed the curvy knife. It looked truly menacing, and he picked it up before considering its potential danger. It glowed slightly when he picked it up. As a hero chao, its sinister nature disgusted him. In his continued frustration, he threw it at a nearby boulder. The blade chipped, falling to the ground with a small clang, and the flames began to dissipate.

The two terrified chao began to clamber out of the pool as soon as the flames disappeared entirely.

Rascal considered this. It was awhile before he spoke, "I don't think chao living in the city is to blame for the attacks. I mean, even in nature there are natural disasters... volcanic eruptions, tidal waves, earthquakes," he reasoned, but then seemed to forget where he was going with his point. "Still, I'd never want to live in such a place. Too many chao. Nowhere to escape to. I guess that makes me a lot different than most chao." He turned away from Chasm, feeling exposed and embarrassed.

--

"One more minute in there and we would've been goners for sure," the fly chao said, grimacing, pain in every step. "We sure are lucky you guys showed up. Where were you??"

"The beach. But we should probably get you two to the hospital, your burns are pretty severe," Dash said.

"Nevermind that," mumbled the green neutral chao, waving his hand. "That tyrannt Kinto Q and his minion must be stopped--" He tried to take a step but his legs gave out on him, collapsing to the ground.

Dash knelt down in concern, offering the older chao a hand. "Kinto Q?"

The stubborn chao nodded. "He's a swim type, wearing a cape. You can tell from looking into his eyes that he's gone evil. And his lackey... cocky feller, two-tone blue with horns and weilding magic of some kind. He's the one who put up the flames and that skeleton critter. He took a bunch of the survivors with him to some kind of base or another."

Dash felt his stomach knot. The group of chao he'd run into. "We can't go after them now; we have to get you two medical attention," the red chao insisted.

"Oh." Chasm interjected, "I just meant, yeah, I think the city can get claustrophobic and ... and then chao lash out. We're usually more peaceful than this!" She sounded frustrated, like she blamed herself somehow.
Finally noticing Rascal's awkwardness, the fly chao piped up, "You're different, but you're great, Rascal! I love being with lots of friends, but sometimes it's really nice to ... escape, I guess." She finished lamely.

--

Peaches dashed through the foliage as quickly as she could, panting; running was not her specialty. She had noticed that the dark smoke had seemed to end. The air was still thick with it, but it had stopped.
I'm not a baby any more, she thought stubbornly. I can handle myself. I can help out.
Besides her rebellious feelings, she also realized now more than ever how much she cared for both Dash and Spike. Peaches surprised even herself with how worried she was for their safety.

--

Spike was watching the on-going battle between a hideous grey beast and the just identified Kinto Q in awe. Coming back to reality, he shook his head violently. "Dash is right. We aren't prepared to take on these two." They're way out of our league. He hated himself for thinking it, and could not stand the thought of saying it. "We're ... Lucky they haven't noticed us. Let's take you two to the hospital in Station Square, quickly."
His mind trailed to Peaches and the others, concerned. They were supposed to meet them again, but these chao were in danger and it was too risky to be noticed by Kinto Q and the grey monstrosity.
Peaches is smart... She can figure it out. He told himself.

(So we need to end Adrian and Kinto Q's fight some way or the other, and Peaches needs to see that Dash and Spike aren't there but they aren't dead either, and meet up with Rascal and Chasm, and then those three will of course be looking for Dash and Spike. Woo)

For some reason this forum is glitching and will not allow me to post Ciao's character sheet to the first post; it claims something about not being able to determine image dimensions, despite there being NO images at all in this character sheet. Yeah, weird. So here it is.

Name: Alexa (Alex)
Gender: Female
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Breed: Two-Tone Brown
Type: Neutral/Fly/Run
Appearance: Similar to a standard Neutral/Fly/Run Chao, but her jesters are longer and curl around twice, instead of once. The tip of each jester uncurls and hangs lower.
-- Stats --
Swim: D
Fly: A
Run: A
Power: C
Stamina: B
Special Abilities: No special powers per se, but she has a quick wit and can be a little manipulative.
Personality: Adventurous and spunky. Alex always has a desire to try new things and see new sights. As such, she's often on the move and rarely settles in one place. Adaptable. She's also a bit mischievous, having a child-like attitude. She taunts, mocks, and sometimes steals from other chao. She's not inherently bad, she simply lacks a certain level of maturity.
Biography: Bored by the monotony of the Chao Gardens, Alexa set off to make her own life. She's explored all sorts of places, for no other reason than that she's curious about what they have to offer. With nothing but her wit, instincts, and a confident grin to aid her, she lives on the edge.
Her mother made her promise to come back to the neutral chao garden and visit her time and time again. Alexa does just as she says and often drops in for a quick hello and an update on her adventures. Not wanting to get too attached to anyone or anything, Alexa only speaks with her loving mom while she's visiting.
Her favorite place is the forest very near the garden, where she often sits in trees while deciding where to go to next.
...Alexa is unaware that her mother was killed in Kinto Q's recent attack on the garden.
Starting Base: In the middle of the forest.
About Your Role-Playing: I try to be detailed, specifically related to character's feelings. While I think that is a strength, it can also be a con; sometimes, I put a few too many words (where they aren't needed) in my post and it seems convoluted. I'm working on finding the right balance.

Rascal just hummed, setting his concerns adrift as he closed his eyes and floated belly-up in the water, letting the current take him wherever it may. When he opened his eyes a few minutes later, he noticed the branches above him were that of a pomegrante tree, the twigs ladden with heavy, full-bodied fruit. "Hey, you hungry?" he sat up in the water to ask Chasm.

--

Kinto Q glanced toward the Crab Pool as he ducked another one of the werechao's downward attacks, noticing Zack and his new subjects had gotten underway as planned. He grinned wickedly until another detail managed to catch his eye-- a bright red and lime green chao disappearing into the bushes in the direction of the city, carrying two of the chao that had formerly been sealed within the pool. They must have lowered the flames and destroyed Zack's skeletal warrior while he was distracted in battle. Anger flared up within the swimchao.

"ENOUGH!" he bellowed, thrusting his arms out to the sides. The action sent a wall of dark energy blasting out, throwing the werechao back several steps. "My deed here has been accomplished..." he whispered harshly, "I'll not tarry longer in paltry battle against the likes of you." With that, he swirled his cape around his front, dropping a smoke bomb beneath his feet.

Chasm considered the question for a moment. Her stomach was tight with anxiety, but after all the exercise at the beach, she wasn't feeling quite as lively and alert as she could be. "Sure," she responded, smiling sheepishly. Chasm made herself upright in the shallow lagoon.

Were-Adrian watched confusedly as smoke arose into the air. Getting once more into a stable stance, the beast charged headlong into the smoke, only to meet no opposition. Its eyes began to water, struggling to keep them open, to seek out that person who was an affront to nature, who had damaged so much and regret so little. Were-Adrian howled in both pain and anger, running out of the smoke on all fours. It tore away from the garden entirely and ran off into the night.

Peaches shuddered violently mid-run upon hearing a tremendous roar. She shook her head and kept going anyway, for she was nearly to the garden now.
Come what may... The orange chao thought nervously.

Hearing the tumultuous howl, Spike frowned to conceal his fright. He, Dash, and the two chao proceeded through the foliage towards Station Square, where they hoped to find medical help.

Upon hearing the answer, Rascal lifted himself out of the water with several quick flaps of his small, wedge-shaped wings. They weren't very developed, but in short bursts like this to reach the tops of trees, they were effective enough. He grabbed hold of the branch and plucked one of the best-looking fruits with a twist. "Catch!" he called down to Chasm, dropping it above her. He then grabbed one for himself and glided back down into the water.

--

Kinto Q cursed beneath his breath as he nursed his left shoulder. It felt like it had been sprained during the battle with the beast. Where had it originated from? How had it gotten its power? He tried to cast the thoughts from his mind and focus on what had been accomplished that night. A new batch of slaves to serve in his lair, another attack that would surely strike panic into the hearts and minds of the chao living across the island. Yes, it would only take a few more good attacks to convince all of Chao Island to surrender themselves to his rule. A wicked sneer spread across his face, a lively feeling in his chest. Every chao bowing down, every chao acknowledging his greatness.

--

"Coming through!" Dash blurted as he thrust through the front door of the Station Square Medical Facility. The nurse chao and doctor chao looked his way, stunned at the sight of the green chao he was supporting as well as the fly chao draped over Spike's shoulders. "We have wounded!" Immediately the staff brought stretchers and supplies, wisking the two injured chao away down the hall.

"Whew..." Dash drug his arm across his brow. He turned to Spike. "Good thing we're fast on our feet."

Not registering Rascal's announcement in time, the pomegranate landed with a small thud upon Chasm's head, but she caught it before it fell any further.
"Ooh..." She rubbed her head with her other hand, but then began to giggle slightly, blushing. She took a small bite despite herself.

--

Foliage rustled close by Peaches as she jogged. Just then, a large, grey figure tore past her just feet from her left. Nearly falling over in shock, Peaches continued on, now more jarred than ever.

She arrived at the garden to find it in ruins. It was burnt in many locations, and she could not dispel the idea that there had practically been a full-scale war here. More terrifying yet, she could see no sign of her friends, or indeed, anyone at all.

"Dash! ...Spike!?" She called out. There was no answer. It was eerily silent in the garden, the only sound that of a few small, crackling flames that were soon to dissipate.

"SPIKE! DASH!" Peaches began to panic somewhat. What had happened to her friends? What had happened here? She had so many questions, but there could be no answers now. There were no bodies of anyone she knew, only the disturbingly anonymous remains of a chao who appeared to be involved in an explosion. Where could they all be? Refocusing somewhat, she realized that her best option would be to meet back up with Chasm and Rascal before discussing the next course of action. The thought of debating the situation seemed almost ludicrous to her; what information was there, and what decisions could be logical?

Tears rising in her eyes, the orange chao turned on the spot and ran back towards the meeting point.

--

Spike said nothing, merely nodding in response. He was panting. Though he did not like to admit it, while Spike was a fair runner himself, Dash had excellent stamina. It may have been simply considered a good work out, were they not each supporting the weight of another chao. Instead it had been somewhat of a rough trip. The lime green chao was relieved that the hard part of their journey was at its end.

Catching his breath somewhat, leaving such thoughts behind, he spoke, "So... What now?"

"No, you don't eat them like that, silly!" Rascal laughed, watching the fly chao try to sink her teeth into the rough outer hull. "Haven't you eaten a pomegranate before?" he asked with incredulty, only realizing after he'd said it that it might've sounded pretty rude. He cleared his throat, "Here." Rascal reached over to grab her fruit and struck it against a nearby sharp rock, causing a small rupture to form in the skin. He peeled the two halves apart, exposing the ruby-red seeds. "This part is much tastier."

--

Dash shook his head. "I don't know." Now that the adrenaline was leaving his system, it was being replaced with distress. The carnage they had just witnessed... His eyes closed, shuddering a little bit. Good chao, murdered by that... fiend. Though his heart was heavy with those who had had their lives so brutally taken from them, a spark of hope still remained. Somehow they had to find a way to save the inhabitants of the Normal garden who had been enslaved. "We've gotta rescue the others. But--"

"Dash?" His words were cut off by the utterance of his name from behind him. He turned around, recognizing the girl chao. "Melody!" he exclaimed, eyebrows leaping up on his head.

The hero fly chao rushed up to give him a tight hug. "Dash, what are you doing here?" she asked as she pulled back, both her hands in his.

A grimness overtook the red chao's features, glancing back at Spike, not sure how to deliver the news. "The Normal Garden was attacked this evening."

Kinto Q inhaled deeply as he proceeded down the long tunnel delving into the mountainside. Composing himself somewhat first, he threw open the double-doored entrance to his lair, letting out a mighty and triumphant chuckle that threw back his head. His disciples in the main chamber bowed their heads in reverence. "We have much cause to rejoice this night!" Kinto Q relayed to them, strutting into the room (his slaves shutting the large doors behind him). "A great blow has been struck to Shimmering Island. The total annihilation of the beloved Normal Garden. Once home to many, now home to none." At this he paused, smirking, allowing a hubbub to start up amongst his followers. "Come now, let us celebrate the approach of a new era, one most certain to last decades! Take up food and drink and be merry." He lifted his hands, clapping them together thrice to signal to his slaves to hasten to the kitchen. A loud cheer rose up.

"Oh, goodness." Chasm muttered, allowing Rascal to show her. She watched him with a bashful curiosity as he handed her back the pomegranate halves. "Thanks." She said, looking to the seeds and thinking that her face must be a similar shade of red. Chasm began to dig in. The night would have been a peaceful one, were it not for all the commotion. She looked to the distance, off into the forest, towards the last place she had seen her friend Peaches before the orange chao had disappeared into the foliage entirely. The fly chao didn't bother to suppress a sigh.
"Is it time for us to go back to the rally point?"

--

Spike leaned against the walls of the hospital as he viewed the reunion scene before him. He wondered for a moment if Melody would ever register his existence. Before he could become too egocentric, however, Dash had brought up the disturbing news of the night, just like that. He didn't think it much of an ice breaker, but then smoothness was never the red chao's strongest suit. Dash seemed to have a way of charming people with actions rather than words.
Spike looked to Melody's face of shock, then something like sadness, upon hearing the story. He folded his arms; the subject made him uneasy. He took a moment to reflect on the events of the night. The lime green chao thought he could have gone his whole life without seeing such carnage. Suppressing a shudder, the hero chao hoped the sights would not haunt him.
Reluctantly, he convinced himself to let Dash do the talking. The red chao may not be any more eloquent with his words, but Spike knew that Dash's relationship with Melody was much more deep than his own.

[[To help us remember. Captives are:

Zack laughed aloud. The cheers were infectious; it felt so good to take the time to rejoice. Food was brought out in trays and set upon the many tables scattered throughout the main chamber. In due time, the servants of Kinto Q were sitting amongst the many bean bags and recliners throughout, chittering cheerfully away. Even live music was provided, with a number of the swim chao's musically gifted servants performing sound that perforated, but did not penetrate the atmosphere. Zack smiled. This was certainly not a night to be forgotten.
And yet, as time went on, with his belly full, the run chao came to realize just how lonely he was even amongst this large crowd. He grimaced; his emotions were getting the better of him, even now? He could not stomach his own weakness. After a time, he withdrew from the main chamber, doubting anyone would notice regardless. Zack headed to his personal quarters, and upon reaching the door, heaved a sigh.
Why can't I just have fun for once?
His eyes on the ground, he opened the door and walked in heavily. The blue chao jumped in fright at the sight of his own skeletal guardian that he had left there earlier. He groaned out loud, upset with his own stupidity. He turned away and closed the door, locking it with a barely audible click.
What does it take for me to be happy?!
In an instant, Zack allowed his anger to overcome him in waves. He spun around and punched the skeletal figure across the jaw. A dull crunching sound was heard as the inactive guardian toppled over. Pain swelled up in his fists, but adrenaline quickly caused it to subside.
His right foot became engulfed in the familiar purple flames as he stomped down upon the skeleton's chest. He roared loudly, and its cavity flattened with a sickening crunch that might have caused the run chao to shudder were he not so overcome with rage.
Crack. Crack. Crack. The lifeless figure was beyond even undeath as the frustrated chao beat the rest of it to a mound of fractured and fragmented bones. The floor tile beneath the skeletal summoning was becoming damaged, but Zack still did not care. Tears flowed steadily down his face.

The question drew Rascal's chin up, glancing at the position of the moon, trying to judge how much time had passed. "Not just yet I don’t think.” He went back to nibbling his fruit. It took him a moment to notice the girl chao looked rather anxious. "You okay? Would you, um... rather go now?" he offered.

--

"Attacked?" Melody's voice was shocked. "By whom? Who would do such a thing?"

"He... he calls himself Kinto Q, I guess," Dash said. "He only seems to desire rampant destruction. Spike and I got there in time to save a few, but... but not everyone..." he hung his head.

Melody pressed her hand over her chest, trying to not let her emotions get the best of her at the delivery of this news. The garden... where she and Dash had both grown up... she couldn't believe that someone would want to destroy that. She set her jaw and looked back up at Dash. "You did well. Both of you. If you two hadn’t been there, no one would have been saved.”

[[Feel free to have Spike mention those in need of rescue.]]

There were six chao seated at the corner table of the main chamber. Dorian Gray sat at the head of the long end, his feet propped up on the table, leaned back in his chair such that two of the legs teetered in the air. He was a shiny orange neutral power chao, with bored eyes and neutral expression. He sipped idly at the grape juice in his goblet.

Sitting beside him was Cue, an above-average sized neutral dark chao. Cue was named for his color; he had shiny white skin, and his fists were certainly as hard as a pool ball. Two little horns poked out of the sides of his head where they didn’t belong on a neutral dark chao but were there nonetheless. In addition, his eyes were a solid yellow, no recognizable pupil, though there was typically no question where he was looking because mainly it was straight ahead. Grumbling loudly, Cue struck down his flagon of ale, spilling some of the foamy drink. “Why are we celebrating?!”

Ambivalently, Dorian waved his free hand. “The Master said why, if you’d been listening. We are celebrating his magnificent attack upon the Neutral Garden.”

“I was listening!” Cue growled back, grip tightening on the handle of his mug. “But what cause is it for us to celebrate his victories?! It’s about time I was part of the action!” He whomped the table with his fist. “I want to crack some skulls!”

“Must you always be so boorish?” Dorian asked rhetorically, kneeding his temple with an eyeroll.

[[The number six can be ret-con'd if we decide to go with more or less of this evil crew.]]

[[I updated the original post with these four new character sheets, AND the forum finally allowed me to put Ciao's Alexa in there as well. No idea what was going on there.

Let's go ahead and ret-con it to four evil fools. It should work just fine, they seem capable enough.

Name: Jack
Gender: Male
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Breed: Dark Run
Type: Two-Tone Purple
Appearance: He has a scar running across his right eye and wears a dark purple cloak.
Image
-- Stats --
Swim: C
Fly: C
Run: S
Power: C
Stamina: A
Special Abilities: No innate abilities per se, but he is a sharpshooter with his crossbow and designs custom bolts for them with a variety of effects.
Personality: Jack is known for being very self-reliant and crafty. He does not speak unless necessary, but his opinions are strong. As much of a lone wolf as he is, he has the wisdom to realize that goals cannot be accomplished alone, and that many are stronger than one. He has little patience for incompetence, however, so he picks his allies very selectively. The lure of gold and glory motivates him.
Biography: Jack intentionally shies away of telling anyone of his childhood, though it likely wasn't a pleasant one. His need for glory is undoubtedly to compensate for receiving no praise in his youth, and his lust for gold is to pay for the comforts that he never had. Jack is well-acquainted with Severus, but has few other friends. He became part of Kinto Q's disciples for the pay and the opportunity to work with other competent chao.
Starting Base: Kinto Q's underground base

Name: Kaylessa
Gender: Female
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Breed: Amethyst Jewel
Type: Neutral Fly/Fly
Appearance: She has phoenix parts except for feet.
-- Stats --
Swim: C
Fly: A
Run: C
Power: A
Stamina: B
Special Abilities: Ability to breath fire.
Personality: Arrogant and self-assured, Kaylessa argues constantly to get her way. Her unique power has only made her more convinced that she's the best around. She hungers for more power still.
Biography: Humbled by Kinto Q quickly besting her in a fight, the chao was nonetheless impressed with Kaylessa's abilities and invited her to join him. It took her some time to admit to herself that she was beaten at all, however, and she still won't admit it to anyone else. Any time it has been brought up that she serves someone despite being "the best," Kaylessa merely scoffs and insists that she's only in it for the fringe benefits. Her respect and fear for Kinto Q is obvious, however, in that she won't insult him.
Starting Base: Kinto Q's underground base

Chasm looked slightly apologetic. "I'd… Really rather if we just left now." It was after saying this that she realized how uncouth it was, and indeed, could give Rascal the wrong idea about how she felt towards him. She got up and out of the pool and, still nibbling half-heartedly at her pomegranate, began to walk slowly at first towards the rally point, allowing the apparently careless cyan chao to catch up.

--

A terrifying thought struck Peaches as she began jogging towards the meeting point. What if Rascal and Chasm were nowhere to be found as well? What if she were lost, and all on her own now? She shuddered at the thought and tried to dissuade herself from such musings.
Chasm and Rascal were safe where they were… And they'd probably be able to flee if worst came to worst.
The idea continued to haunt her slightly regardless.

--

Spike grimaced. Melody's way of taking charge and acting pious often annoyed him greatly. It was a trait common in hero chao, and it bothered him to see his brothers and sisters do as such. He cleared his throat.

"Well, it's not too late for those chao, is it? After all, this … Kinto Q …" He spoke the name with a palpable sense of disgust, "Didn't kill them, he took them away. We can still save them." Looking from Melody's face to Dash's, his eyes narrowed, feeling suddenly driven despite the exhausting night. "And pay back what he did to our garden."

--

Jack watched the scene before him with a mixture of amusement and mild annoyance. He was a Dark Run chao with a sinister purple hue about him, and he completed that look with the cloak around his neck. A scar across his right eye suggested that the chao had seen battle many times and was quite the escape artist. Jack thought to himself that Cue was uncouth, but had to admit that the white chao had a point. "I would like a new assignment, as well. It's been some time." Quickly dropping his eyes to his drink, Jack took a sip of the merlot and proceeded to eye it approvingly. "Quality stuff." He muttered.

"The best of the best." Kaylessa nodded fervently, taking a sizable gulp of her ale. Her body was a jewel-like deep purple, and she seemed to glow slightly as she drank, her orange wings, tail and head crest shining with a strange inner light. Taking all too long to swallow, almost seeming to savor the attention being upon her, she cleared her throat. "Cue's right. We need to get out there and show the world what we're made of."

"What Kinto Q stands for." Jack corrected her, not bothering to mask a skeptical look her way.

"Of course." Kaylessa responded quickly, dismissively waving her free hand as she took another gulp of ale. She tried and failed to hide a belch.

Rascal shrugged his shoulders and followed after Chasm. He didn’t mind either way, so if she’d rather head out now, it was no problem. The two of them proceeded to the clearing. Rascal turned around in a circle slowly, observing their surroundings. “I think we must be early. They’ll probably get here soo—“

It was just as he was finishing his word when the orange power chao burst through the shrubs on their left. “Oh, hey, Peaches. Did you find the others?” he asked, not keen to her inner-panic.

A question-mark emotiball appeared over Melody’s head. “He took prisoners?”

Dash nodded nervously.

Her small mouth turned down into a frown. “Then Spike’s right. We must go rescue them. But do we have any idea where they are?”

Dash nibbled his lip. “I ran into them, actually. Making their way South along Mystic Jungle Road. If I’d known… I would’ve stopped them…” His fists clenched at his sides.

“That doesn’t narrow it down very much, but it will have to do,” Melody ascertained. She swiveled toward the exit of the hospital.

Dorian scoffed. “Not a one of you is content to live in luxury and benefit from the Master’s good mood, are you?” He tossed back the rest of his drink and held it aloft, motioning at a nearby servant carrying a pitcher. The dark chao hurried over to him to fill his glass, bowing before taking his leave. Dorian drank deeply.

“Of course I’m right!” Cue responded to Keylessa, thumping the table again and making all the dishes clatter. He reached out to snatch the shiny orange chao’s goblet from him, tossing it away. “Luxury is for the weak; we need battle!”

Despite the sudden action taken against his beverage, Dorian remained relatively unruffled. “You do make it rather hard to be around you sometimes. You know that?”

“Hmph,” Cue rolled his beefy shoulders, “I don’t care.”

Chasm's face lifted immediately. She ran towards Peaches and embraced her, sharing a brief moment together. "Oh thank heaven," The black chao muttered. "The others..?" She whispered as she withdrew.

Peaches shook her head violently; tears were forming in her eyes for a variety of reasons, and she wiped them away. "I couldn't find them."

Chasm gasped. "What's going on? Are they …" She could not stomach what was going on, or parse the next word in her sentence. What would she say? 'Are they alright? Alive?' The fly chao shuddered at the thought.

The orange chao composed herself. "I'm glad you two are safe. The other two are nowhere to be found, but I'm pretty sure they're alive. They could be in trouble, though." Peaches shook her head. "I don't know how else to say it; our garden is completely destroyed."

--

Spike gaped at Dash. "You ran into them? Dash, come on, man!" He threw his arms up in frustration. Although knowledge of the general direction the chao went was a consolation, it seemed small in comparison to all of the other bad news that seemed to be stacking up increasingly by the hour.

--

Kaylessa chuckled. "I do love this crew! Worthy allies, the lot of you!" As the heads turned her way, she smirked. "But Dorian, grow a pair, will you?" She laughed uproariously at her own quip sooner than entirely socially acceptable.

Jack remained silent and rubbed at his temples. He seemed opposed to drawing much more attention to their table.
