[SA2PC] how to enable Ambient occlusion / Disable mipmaps

Post by DarkyBenji » Tue Sep 10, 2013 4:22 pm

not sure if i should post here or not.. you can move the topic if this is the wrong way :darkblink:
YOU MUST HAVE A GOOD GRAPHIC CARD ! MAKE SURE THE GAME RUN 100% NO LAG BEFORE DO THIS

anyway i got so many question how my SA2PC and my chao look beautiful
like this :
Image

you can see i use HD chao texture + ambient occlusion + i disable mipmaps

because you can see from the screen of FrankT
he use chao hd texture but sometime when he's far away the chao, the texture have bad quality
Image

HOW TO ENABLE Ambient occlusion ! (Nvidia only)
Spoiler:
GEFORCE 327.23 IS RECOMMENDED
so before begin the "tuto" : what is ambient occlusion ? (AO)

well if you don't know what's a AO
it's a advanced option of nvidia for get better shadows of the model

AO off: http://i.minus.com/iDMrzxunxbOsA.png
AO on: http://i.minus.com/iNQK7lmHoxJt6.png

pretty nice hm ?
well let's enable this but..

You MUST have Nvidia graphic Card for enable AO

1 - Download nvidiaInspector

2 - click Image

3 - a new windows apear, click Image

4 - enter a name (SA2B, sonic adventure 2 or sonic adventure 2 battle) and click ok

5 - now click the house (the small arrow) and select SA2B

6 - click Image and search "sonic2app.exe"
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic Adventure 2

7 - try to copy this :
Compatibility :
Ambient occlusion compatibility : 0x00000023 (Fable: The Lost Chapters)
(you must select 0x00000003 (Fallout 3) in Ambient occlusion compatibilit if you use performance)

Common :
Ambient occlusion setting : Quality or Performance (if you game lag with Quality) (high quality is the best AO quality, but you need a "monster" graphic card for run it)
Ambient occlusion usage : Enabled

after that : click "Apply Changes" for save
launch the game, go to chao garden
Huzzah the shadow is better !
HOW TO DISABLE MIP MAPS
Spoiler:
disable Mip maps keep the texture high quality like hd chao when you're far away

for nvidia :
you can go to 7 if you have already do the 1,2,3,4,5,6 for AO

1 - Download nvidiaInspector

2 - click Image

3 - a new windows apear, click Image

4 - enter a name (SA2B, sonic adventure 2 or sonic adventure 2 battle) and click ok

5 - now click the house (the small arrow) and select SA2B

6 - click Image and search "sonic2app.exe"
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic Adventure 2

7 - try to copy (or add if you have AO) this :
Texture Filtering :
Anisotropic filtering mode : User-defined / Off
Anisotropic filtering setting : 16x
Texture filtering - Anisotropic filter optimization : Off

after that : click "Apply Changes" for save
launch the game, go to chao garden
Huzzah the texture chao (body, eye, mouth) don't lose quality when you're far away !

For ATI user :
tuto for ati not ready, sorry :walkback:
now your SA2PC is beautiful :chaohappy: use some HD texture and here we go :darkhappy:
btw you can enable FXAA with nvidia inspector if you have a good computer for make the game "smoothe"

if you want the same config sa2b nvidiainspector like mine, well copy this :

You what? The shots I've been making aren't up to standard? :chaocry: I shall fix this promptly!

EDIT: Ohh! What have you done??

Image

These... strange artifacts... once again I've been given an inferior graphics card.
But it's quite right that you should point these kind of things out. And I'm sorry, bitterly sorry, but I know that... no apologies I can make can alter the fact that I've been issuing inferior photography! I've... been meaning to spend more time in the Gardens recently, but I haven't been too well... things aren't going very well back there... but they're good Chao, and they're kind Chao... and together we were beginning to get over this dark patch... there was light at the end of the tunnel... WHEN THIS... HAPPENED!! It's the end of the road!!

Image

This is the end! The end! Aaargh!!

bad Ao quality is bad

EDIT :
Spoiler:
Image

i thinks i know how to fix your problems
in Ambient occlusion setting you selected "Performance"
this is why you have a bad quality of Ambient occlusion

with 0x00000003 (Fallout 3) + performance you get this :
Image

more better than 0x00000023 (Fable: The Lost Chapters) + performance
but still... bad :walk:
try to select 0x00000003 (Fallout 3) in ambient occlusion compatibility
if for you it's still bad.. well disable AO :darkblink:

but you can still disable mipmaps so the textures chao can look.. a little better :heroblink:

btw.. did you test quality from ambient occlusion setting ?

I've tried quality! It's rather sluggish. Can I still get a performance boost?

well not really you have 2 choose :

- Enable AO on performance but with 0x00000003 (Fallout 3) and not 0x00000023 (Fable: The Lost Chapters)

- Don't use AO and disable only Mipmaps texture : that's don't make the textures bad quality (or lose HD texture) when your chao is far away to you

also i updated my tutorial of AO

ok  well disable just mipmaps for the moment (i hope you mean the AO when you say "still slow" because if you lag by disable mipmaps well your graphic card is very.. low)
what's your graphic card ? just saying
mine it's GeForce GTX 670 :walkback:

A GeForce GT 620. Figures that it's one of those boring "Everyday Computing" cards! I'll see if I can buy one of those new 760s or something.

You are quite lucky, folks. Sadly I can't get rid of parental controls on my Wii so I can't do ANY hacking because Hewbrew channel won't show up :( (Its my own fault, I accidently put parental controls on, I'm gonna have to have a peek at the ID while my mum and dad aren't at home some time :p)

a. this is pc
b. sa2 wasn't re-released on wii anyway
c. you can't mod your own console?
d. i remember parental controls doesn't affect the homebrew channel appearing

anyway

does nvidiainspector modify anything other than custom settings for sa2?
it's not something i've used before and the last thing i want to do is stuff the graphics for other games

it's a mod, not nintendo based
it voids your warranty, you think it cares about parental controls?
someone probably updated your wii, and you got lucky in that it removed the homebrew instead of bricking your wii

anyway back on topic, i'll give it a go i guess

Dude. Get a 960. Its around the same price as a 760 but its pretty much better in every way.

Is there any way to do this on an Intel Graphics Driver

Pretty sure you can't. I (unfortunately) have an Intel Graphics card and a laptop, meaning I can't take it out.

Although I'm not quite an expert on this, so it could be possible that you could do it, but most likely not.

Conclusion, AO (Ambient Occlusion) is only for "high-end PC's". Us Intel users cannot use it However...there is something called ReShade that works for most games on PC including SA2PC and has an Ambient Occlusion setting that you can run on your game. It doesn't quite look the same but it's still something. Take note that you need a PC that can run it without slow downs. I ran it and it brought me down to 40fps sadly (yes very shocking to some of you) so you need to optimize the settings a bit.

Hi! I have the high quality setting on and no minimaps, but I don't feel too much has changed, and i don't have the shadow under my chao (even in the normal textured garden.) Any tips?
