HYPOTHESIS: Fortune Teller names increase the luck stat.
I raised a nameless chao to adulthood, on nothing but treenuts and it's favorite fruit. Finally, I entered him in a race. Most of the times I entered him in this race, he fell into several holes. Then, I went to the Fortune Teller, and accepted the "lucky name". Then I scrubbed the name and kept accepting these names. After about 15 minutes of this, I put him into 6 races. Only once did he actually fall into a hole. I can't say for certain if this was a coincidence, but I think names from the Fortune Teller may boost the luck stat.
CONCLUSION: Uncertain.

Unfortunately, since that stat is literally luck, it's hard to tell.

I checked my unnamed Chao's Luck stat with Fusion's Chao Editor, then I took him to the Fortune Teller and gave him a name. (Afterwards, I tried doing this several times in a row. Just in case.)

His Luck stat didn't change. Even though when I gave him a fruit, and his Stamina leveled up, the Editor changed the number like it was supposed to.

It's not surprising that the Onomancer's names are purely cosmetic, but it does raise some fridge logic about a game that has luck as a stat and features a fortuneteller, yet draws no connection between the two at all.

The Fortune Teller also says that the name she (Can we say that? I'm gonna say that.) gives is a "lucky" name.
