Rock-Paper-Scissors

This game is included in all Version 1 Tiny Chao Gardens; that is, the one in Sonic Advance and downloadable from Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II. It can be accessed by clicking the white GBA at the top of the screen. It is based on the popular Rock-Paper-Scissors game, which you may already be familiar with.

When you start, you will be immediately thrust into the game, and the 30 second timer will begin counting down. Ten cards will circle around your Chao. You will notice that each card has one of three hand gestures on them: rock (green), paper (purple), or scissors (pink). You will also be dealt three random cards at the bottom of the screen.

In case you aren’t already familiar with the rules of Rock-Paper-Scissors: each hand gesture wins over another, loses to another, and ties with itself. Rock wins over scissors by smashing it, but loses to paper. Paper wins over rock by wrapping it, but loses to scissors. Scissors wins over paper by cutting it, but loses to rock.

The objective of this mini-game is to shoot the moving cards with the ones that you have at the bottom. You can use the left and right buttons to select one of your cards, and the A button to shoot it. You should be aiming to shoot the cards with a card that beats it, according to the Rock-Paper-Scissors rules explained above.

  • If you manage to shoot a card with a card that beats it, then the moving card that you hit will disappear, and you will earn 1 ring as a reward. You will also get a random card to replace the one you used.
  • If you shoot a card with a card that ties with it, then the moving card that you hit will again disappear, and you will get a random card to replace the one you used. However, you will not earn any rings.
  • If you accidentally shoot a card with a card that loses to it, then the moving card will not disappear! Your card will be deflected away, and of course you will not earn any rings. You will be given a random replacement card, but this time it will not come for free. On the right of the screen you can see your stock of replacement cards; you start with five of these, and use one up each time you lose to a card. This also happens if you simply miss and don’t manage to accurately hit any card.

As you make the moving cards disappear by winning or tying against them, they will move faster and faster. If you manage to remove all of them, then a new set of moving cards will appear and you gain 10 seconds on your timer. For this reason, you should try to clear all the cards as quickly as possible!

As already mentioned, the cards that you are dealt are chosen randomly. It is possible that you will not have the right kind of card to beat any of the moving cards. In this case, you should try to at least get a tie by shooting an identical card. If you can’t even do that, then you will be forced to make a “wrong” move to get one of your limited replacement cards.

The game ends when you run out of time, or when you have used up your entire stock of cards. Either way, you will be returned to the Tiny Chao Garden with any rings that you managed to earn.
