As Chao explore their Gardens, they express themselves through a large variety of actions, ranging from playful, to sad, to tired, to happy. Actions can largely be separated into two categories- those which any Chao can perform on their own, such as sleeping and blinking, and those which require a Chao to obtain something, through player input, to be able to perform. This second category includes playing with toys and animal actions. A Chao's personality seems to have some small effects to the actions a Chao performs, specifically the Cry Baby personality, which may cause an otherwise happy Chao to look like it is crying.

Negative Actions
Various negative actions cause Chao to become upset and reduce their happiness. In the Gamecube or HD versions of SA2 or SADX, there are no positive effects of abusing chao except the minor effect in SA2 of tilting chao's alignment in the opposite direction to the player character, which can be achieved by significantly safer means such as petting the chao. The following table details the various chao reactions to the abuse.

Technical Info
The game uses a queue for actions. There are two functions, one that sets the current/first one on the queue (0071EF10 on SADX, 0053D890 on SA2) and one that adds one to the queue (0071EF30 on SADX, 0053D970 on SA2). When the action returns 1, the queue advances.
