The 1998 Sonic Adventure Autodemo for the Dreamcast was a prototype of the final game.
Chao Garden
The first chao garden found in the autodemo was unpolished and missing many features, such as swimming. A lot of the noises the chao made were very different and robotic while being spoken far more frequently. Their physical models were significantly larger as well.
Mechanics were also different. Giving Chao a small animal would change more than just animal parts such as changing the colour of the chao in some cases. The small animals used to be flickies, presumably before they created the Chao animal part ability.
