Dark Races are a category of Chao Races in Sonic Adventure 2 which are unlocked after finishing all of the Beginner Races, and having unlocked the Dark Garden by evolving a Dark Chao. The Dark Races include four races along various courses taken from the Jewel Races. Dark Races only allow unevolved, Neutral, or Dark Chao to enter- Hero Chao may not enter the race. Every race is against various Hero Chao, and the races take place in a Hero Garden-like version of the normal Chao Race courses, complete with Hero Garden-like cheery music, and flowery trees.
Unlike the prizes for the Beginner and Jewel Races, the prizes for these races are unlocked for the whole of the Dark Garden and allow several Chao to play with them at a time. Winning the second race will provide a ball for Chao to kick and chase, and winning the fourth race will provide a radio boombox for Chao to listen to.
When a Chao completes the final Dark Race course the Chao will receive the Dark Medal, which it will wear until it wins another medal. To wear the Dark Medal again, the Chao must complete the fourth Dark Race course again.

Races
Baby Angel
A race against Hero aligned child Chao, along various Gradual Evolution paths. This race follows the same course as the Peridot Jewel Race, only testing a Chao's Run and Stamina stats.
Angels
A race against various Hero Chao. This race follows the same course as the Diamond Jewel Race, and requires a Chao to excel in all stats to succeed, especially Run and Stamina.
Flying Angels
A race against various Flying Hero Chao. This race follows the same course as the Topaz Jewel Race, which requires a Chao to excel in Flying, along with a high enough Run and Swim stat, to emerge victorious.
Angel vs Devil
A 1-on-1 race against a Angel Chao, along the Diamond Jewel Race. A Chao must excel in all stats to beat this strong Angel Chao.
Rivals & Other Chao
"Rival" Chao are those that appear in the same race consistently with the same stats and appearance. Every race has anywhere from 0 to 7 rivals. Non-rival race opponents have random stats taken from a certain range appropriate for each race. Being a rival Chao does not necessarily mean that that Chao has the highest stats of the opponents (although they certainly can be the most challenging opponent.) For the first three races, the values of the Chao's stats are between a certain range, included in the table below. The Angel vs Devil race has been omitted as the only present chao is the rival with set stats.
