Glitches are unintended side effects of coding found in games. This page goes into detail on how it effects the Adventure series Chao Worlds, as well as other Chao-related minigames such as the Tiny Chao Garden.

Sonic Adventure DC & Sonic Adventure 2 DC

Health Centre glitch

In Sonic Adventure 2 DC that use English language text, after a Chao reincarnates, their health centre "Examine Chao" report becomes permanently broken; if they visit the doctor and they attempt to say the number of times transformed, the game will be unable to display it properly, and the game begin to glitch and usually crash. This does not happen if the text is set to Japanese.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle & Sonic Adventure DX

Re-using animal glitch

reuse animal
Demonstration of the animal glitch.

A glitch exists in SADX and SA2 where a small animal can be reused. This is achieved by placing an animal directly in front of the chao rather than giving it to the chao directly. By doing so, the chao will sparkle and gain stats as if interacting with the animal, but the animal will not spring back and become unusable, allowing it to be reused. This can be done to level up a Chao quickly, as the player does not need to keep returning to action stages to retrieve more animals.

Sonic Adventure DX selling glitch

Since the Chao Garden only ever saves when you exit the Chao Garden, or transport your Chao to the Tiny Chao Garden, and also saves your save file at the same time, you cannot reset at any point to still get the rings and also keep your items. However, there's only one thing that only saves your save file: Getting an Emblem. When you get an Emblem, the game forces a save on your save file. However, it does not save your Chao Garden. So, if you sell items to the Black Market, then enter the Chao Races and win an Emblem, then reset, you will still have your rings, but also the item you sold. This can only be done up to 5 times per save file, as there are only 5 chao race emblems. Since rings are tied to your save file, this is only useful if you use this save file to spend rings on various fruit or if you manipulate the Black Market to still have items it would not normally have at the amount of Emblems you currently have by switching save files before the Black Market updates its inventory.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Infinite selling glitch

There exists a bug in the Gamecube versions of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, where if an item is sold within the chao garden and the game is reset without saving, both the items and rings gained remain. The recommended instructions are as follows:

  • Enter Chao garden
  • Sell a high priced item e.g. a shiny eggshell to the blackmarket.
  • DO NOT press start and exit as this will save the game, causing you to lose the item; just press the reset button on the console.
  • Re enter chao world.

You should have the item that you 'sold' previously, and the rings you gained from it also. To save these changes, you do need to quit the garden normally to 'trigger' a save of both files.

Sonic Adventure 2 HD versions (Xbox, PS, Steam)

Hero Garden Fruit

In all of the HD versions of the game, Hero garden fruit give a much higher amount of stamina than intended, giving 99% per fruit (2-3 bars per bite) rather than 40% per fruit (1 bar per bite). Dark and Chao Garden fruit are unaffected.

Bright Chao

Bright Chao are a result of a porting glitch; they appear visually different instead of Shiny Two-tone Chao, consisting of bright colours. They still behave genetically as a Shiny Two-tone otherwise, with the effect being purely visual.

RNG Glitch

RNG on the Sonic Adventure 2 HD versions is broken entirely, resulting in numerous bugs:

  • The egg set chosen to be missing is always the Yellow/Pink/Purple set, making these colours unavailable on this version without cheats or mods.
  • Certain aspects of races that are meant to be random end up being the same everytime, such as the intelligence test in the middle of the Onyx and Diamond courses, as well as the contents of each Jack-in-the-Box. This
  • Chao always appear in the same locations when entering the garden as a specific character.

Missing visual effects

On the Steam version of the game, some visual effects may be missing, such as the sparkles that appear after giving Chao a drive or animal, and Chao's fire breath from the Dragon small animal. This is often due to graphics card settings relating to optimization or power saving. Windows 10 also has a graphics settings section which can be used to set Sonic Adventure 2 to "Maximum Performance" that may also fix this problem. --picture to be added--

Tiny Chao Garden

Stamina Glitch

TCG Stamina glitch. The chao has 6 levels in stamina, but has not gained any points.

There is a glitch with the Version 1 Tiny Chao Garden where Chao does not gain any points on levelling stamina due to a programming error. This is of course not apparent until the chao is transferred to SA2B or SADX, as the TCG does not display the Chao's stats in detail other than the level. This does not happen on other versions of the TCG; this only happens on Version 1, which are specifically Sonic Advance 1 TCGs and the downloaded TCGs from Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Phantasm Star Online.

Sonic Advance Ring Glitch

There is a glitch with the Sonic Advance 1 TCG. It occurs when you delete the main game’s save file. It prevents the rings that you earn in the main game from transferring over to the Tiny Chao Garden. You can then only get rings from playing minigames.

The number of rings that you have is stored within both your main save file, and your Tiny Chao Garden save file; for example, 50 rings and 50 rings. When you delete your main save file, the Tiny Chao Garden save file does not get deleted. This means that the two save files now have an out-of-sync ring count; for example, 0 rings and 50 rings. Due to a programming error, rings do not get transferred to the Tiny Chao Garden when the two save files have an out-of-sync ring count. You can fix the bug if you manage to collect the right number of rings in the main game so that it matches the Tiny Chao Garden’s ring count exactly.
