Jewel Chao are a special breed of Chao found in the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Advance series, and usually are obtained under special conditions or through the Tiny Chao Garden. As such, Jewel Chao are generally harder to obtain, with some ports of the Sonic Adventure games being impossible to obtain Jewel Chao without hacking or modding. They are a form of Texture chao.
Jewel varieties
Jewel Chao typically come in the following 11 varieties: Gold, Silver, Amethyst, Topaz, Ruby, Garnet, Peridot, Onyx, Aquamarine, Emerald, and Sapphire.
The Dreamcast games, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, do not have certain varieties of Jewel Chao, while also containing some which do not appear in the later games, along with having some differences in appearances. The Gold Chao in the Dreamcast games is a much brighter yellow than its modern game counterpart, and a Dreamcast exclusive Bronze Chao exists, which appears similar to the modern era Gold Chao. Additionally, the Dreamcast Ruby Chao appears like the modern era Garnet Chao, while missing a Ruby Chao equivalent. Finally, Sonic Adventure 2 has access to the Moon Chao, a very rare Chao that is not obtainable without hacking in the modern Chao games.
Dreamcast Games
Sonic Adventure
A Gold Chao egg and Silver Chao egg can be found in the over world when playing through the story as any character. You can get one Silver egg and one Gold egg per game file.
The Silver Chao egg can be retrieved from Mystic Ruins by the waterfall. You must push in a small platform ledge on the right of the waterfall to release the egg. The Silver egg will then land in the water, and can be picked up once it reaches the lake's edge. You can then take the egg to the Mystic Ruins Garden to hatch it.
The Gold Chao egg is found towards the back of Station Square's shopping district. Picking it up will trigger the security doors that prevent you from leaving the store with the Gold egg. To bypass the security doors, you must find the egg-shaped stone in the corner of the Town Hall gardens, not far from where you first encountered Chaos 0. Switching this stone in place with the Gold egg will enable you to take the Gold egg out of the store. You can then take this egg to the Station Square Garden to hatch it.
Two special Jewel Chao, Bronze and Onyx Chao, can also be obtained by breeding using the VMU. Bronze is obtained by breeding a Gold Chao and a Black Chao, while Onyx is obtained by breeding a Silver Chao and a Black Chao.
Sonic Adventure 2
Jewel Chao are obtainable using the online Black Market to download them to your VMU, after achieving a certain amount of emblems. The Jewel Chao available are Silver, Gold, Ruby, Sapphire, Amethyst, Emerald, and Moon. A Silver Chao requires 5 emblems, a Gold Chao requires 10 emblems, Ruby, Sapphire, Amethyst, and Emerald require 20 emblems, and Moon requires 30 emblems. The Ruby Chao in Sonic Adventure 2 has the bright jewel-red look that is called a Garnet Chao in the later Gamecube era games. The jewel-pink Ruby Chao that are in the Gamecube games does not have an equivalent in the Dreamcast games.
Gamecube games & other ports
The Game Boy Advance's ability to connect with a Gamecube console opened up the possibility to transfer Jewel Chao from the Game Boy Advance into either Sonic Adventure DX or Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. This is the primary method to obtaining any Jewel Chao in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and getting Jewels other than Gold and Silver in Sonic Adventure DX.
Sonic Adventure DX

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Jewels can only be obtained if you transfer a Jewel Chao via the Game Boy Advance link cable, connected to either a Tiny Chao Garden save file with Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2 or Sonic Pinball Party inserted, or a temporary download of the Tiny Chao Garden when the Game Boy Advance has no cartridge.
Due to the removed functionality of the Game Boy Advance in all future Sonic Adventure 2 ports, the Steam, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions cannot obtain Jewel Chao under normal gameplay conditions. While Jewel Chao still remain in the game's files, they can only be accessible through modding or hacking.
If a chao inherits a Jewel chao gene, they will always obtain the appearance of a Jewel chao as the Jewel characteristic is dominant. Therefore, breeding a Jewel Chao obtained from the TCG will always produce a Jewel Chao. All colours of Jewel chao are equally dominant, for example breeding a pure Gold and pure Silver chao will produce a Chao that has an equal chance of being Gold or Silver.
